The Maine Coon is the largest domesticated cat breed, one of the oldest natural breeds in North America, specifically native to the state of Maine, where it is the official state cat. First recorded at cat shows in the late 19th century, the Maine Coon earned early recognition with a Best Cat award at the 1895 Madison Square Garden show.
Living Needs
Maine Coons are adaptable and do well in homes with or without outdoor access. They enjoy interactive play and climbing. Regular grooming is important due to their long, thick coat.
