Overview & Traits
The Ragdoll is a large, semi-longhaired breed of cat with a colour point coat and blue eyes. The breed is carefully bred to produce large affectionate animals in three patterns, two with white (mitted and bicolour) and one with no white (colourpoint). The name "Ragdoll" is derived from their tendency to go limp and relaxed when picked up. They are sometimes known as "puppy-cats," a term used to refer to unusual behavioral tendencies in cats that are reminiscent of dogs. Such behaviors include following people around, a desire for frequent affection, and their relative lack of aggression toward other pets.
Trait Profile
Breed History
The origins of the Ragdoll date back many decades, surrounded by fascinating lore and dedicated breeding programs. Early foundation cats were crossbred to solidify the standard traits we observe today. It quickly gained international recognition by the WCF and other major registries.
Living Needs
When it comes to the living environment, the Ragdoll thrives in spaces where it can safely explore, play, and interact with its family. They benefit from vertical spaces like cat trees and regular mental stimulation. A balanced diet and routine veterinary check-ups are essential for their well-being.
